The answer is in the text
Many reading questions ask about facts that are written right there in the text. The skill is reading carefully and going back to find the exact words that answer the question. You don’t need to guess — the answer is hiding in the text.

Don’t answer from memory — go back and find the exact words.
“The red fox lives in a den under the old oak tree. She has three little cubs.” How many cubs does the fox have?
Look back: ‘three little cubs’. The answer is right there.

Find the matching part
The question often uses similar words to the text. Find the matching part to find the answer.
“Every morning, Grandpa waters his tomato plants before breakfast.” When does Grandpa water his plants?
The text says ‘every morning… before breakfast’.

Watch the small words
Small words like ‘not’, ‘always’ and ‘never’ change the meaning. Read carefully.
“Penguins cannot fly, but they are excellent swimmers.” Can penguins fly?
The word ‘cannot’ tells us: no, they cannot fly.
